Product Information
Methyl 3-oxobutanedithioate is a lead compound that can be used to lower blood glucose levels. It is a ligand that binds to the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) and activates it, causing insulin sensitivity. Methyl 3-oxobutanedithioate has been shown to have high lipophilicity, which is important for its activity as a PPARγ agonist. This drug also has a low toxicity profile and does not cause liver toxicity or damage when administered orally. Methyl 3-oxobutanedithioate has been shown to reduce blood glucose in mice by oral administration of a glucose load and improves glycemic control in diabetic rats with pancreatic beta cells. It is highly selective for PPARγ, but may also have some affinity for PPARα and PPARβ/δ.
