Ethyl 4-(ethylamino)benzoate is a chemical compound with two ester groups. It is used as an alkylating agent in organic synthesis. Ethyl 4-(ethylamino)benzoate is prepared by the reaction of methanol and ethyl acetoacetate, which occurs via catalysis with palladium on charcoal or platinum on charcoal. The nitro group in ethyl 4-(ethylamino)benzoate can be substituted with other substituents such as chloro, bromo, hydroxy, carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid and amino groups.
