Product Information
- 2-Naphthalenecarboxylic Acid, 5-Bromo-, Methyl Ester
- Methyl-5-bromnaphthalen-2-carboxylat
Methyl 5-bromo-2-naphthoate is a Grignard reagent that reacts with a variety of organic compounds. It has been used in the synthesis of polymers, such as polyvinyl chloride, and yields higher yields than other Grignard reagents. Methyl 5-bromo-2-naphthoate can also be used to synthesize butyllithium, which is an organolithium compound that is commonly used as a strong base in organic synthesis. This reagent can be prepared by reacting magnesium with chloroform and bromine. Methyl 5-bromo-2-naphthoate also reacts with acetylene to form ethynyl bromide. The elimination reactions between methyl 5-bromo-2-naphthoate and hydrogen halides produce trifluoromethyl bromide or trifluoromethyl iodide.
