In rat kidneys, glutapyrone reduces the level of ubiquitin-proteasome system and increases mitochondrial membrane potential. This drug also has respiratory control effects, which may be due to its ability to increase mitochondrial membrane potential and reduce respiratory chain inhibition caused by lipopolysaccharide.
