Taxacin is a cytosolic protein that inhibits the synthesis of inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and other pro-inflammatory mediators. Taxacin has been shown to reduce angioplasty-induced restenosis by inhibiting platelet aggregation and monocyte adhesion to vascular endothelium. It also inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Taxacin is an antimicrobial agent, which may be due to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to ribosomes and preventing protein synthesis. Taxacin also binds to histones in plant cells, which may be responsible for its anticoagulant properties.
