Saredutant is a potent anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits neutrophil infiltration into the inflamed bowel mucosa and reduces mucosal edema. It also inhibits CD4+ T cells from producing proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-2, IFN-γ, and TNF-α. Saredutant has been shown to reduce systolic blood pressure in animal studies, suggesting that it may have antihypertensive effects.
