Description:Pyrimidine-2-sulfonamide is a sulfonamide that inhibits the bcr-abl kinase and is used to treat chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. The compound was found to be effective in Sprague-Dawley rats with CML, but not in CD1 mice. This drug also has an effect on the production of chemokines, which are important for the migration of immune cells. Pyrimidine-2-sulfonamide may act as a chemoattractant by binding to G protein coupled receptors, such as CXCR4 and CXCR3.
