Description:FR 139317 is a selective endothelin receptor antagonist that binds to the endothelin-A receptor, inhibiting its activity. It has been shown to reduce myocardial infarct size and improve cardiac function in an animal model of myocardial infarct. FR 139317 also inhibits the growth of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells in vitro and reduces endothelin-1 levels in a rat model of primary pulmonary hypertension. This drug also leads to an increase in natriuretic peptide levels and disease activity, as well as decreased blood pressure in rats with renal failure.
