It is a synthetic analog of menthol. 5-(2,5-Dimethylphenyl)-1,2-oxazole-3-carboxylic acid has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. This drug also inhibits the synthesis of lysophosphatidic acid and lysophospholipids in vitro.
