4-Bromomethylbenzil is a molecule that can be synthesized by the Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction of 4-bromoanisole and benzaldehyde. It has two bimodal photophysical properties, which are different in absorption and emission spectra. This molecule has a low viscosity (0.1 cP), which is due to its high molecular weight. The activation energies for this molecule are found to be very similar to those of anthracene, but the chloride ion is not necessary for it to react with tetrahydrofuran as it does for anthracene. The constant for this compound is found to be 0.15 M at 25 degrees Celsius, and the logarithm of the partition coefficient between water and octanol is found to be 1.58 at pH 7 and 10 degrees Celsius.
