It can be used to introduce fluorine, chlorine, or triflates into organic compounds. 1-Bromocyclohept-1-ene is also an intermediate for the production of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The stereoisomers of this compound are called 1,2,3,4-cyclobutane tetrahydrofuran and 1,2,3,4-cyclohexane tetrahydrofuran.1-Bromocyclohept-1-ene can be obtained through the reaction of cyclopentadiene with bromine in the presence of magnesium chloride or by heating cyclooctane with magnesium and chlorine.
