Cuspidatin C is an organic solvent that is extracted from the leaves of Taxus cuspidata. It can be used to extract etoposide from the leaves of Taxus cuspidata and has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. Cuspidatin C has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in cell culture. This compound may inhibit cell growth through its ability to form prodrugs with adriamycin, which are then hydrolyzed by esterases. The hydrochloric acid in the stomach may convert these prodrugs into active drugs, which can then bind to DNA and stop cellular proliferation.
