Dihydrolinalool is a diphenyl ether that is used as an ingredient in detergent compositions. It has been shown to have the ability to induce apoptosis in liver cells, which may be due to its cationic surfactant activity. Dihydrolinalool has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. This compound also reacts with fatty acid chains in the cell membrane, preventing them from being incorporated into the membrane and disrupting their function. Dihydrolinalool can be used in biphasic response systems for water vapor removal, as well as for solid phase microextraction of anhydrous sodium.
