It is also an inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and has been shown to be effective in mice with AIDS. This drug also has radical scavenging activities and can be used as a possible anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. 5-(Propan-2-yl)-2-sulfanyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-4-one belongs to the class of pyrimidine nucleosides and has been shown to inhibit nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, such as indole alkaloids.
