This drug is classified as a member of the class of antimalarial agents. 3-(1-Hydroxy-1,3-dihydrobenzo[c][1,2]oxaborol-7-yl)propanoic acid is believed to inhibit the growth of plasmodium by inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. The mechanism of action for this drug is not yet clear.
