• Description: Diammonium dithiodiglycolate is a film-forming polymer that is used as a cross-linking agent. It is used to repair damaged tissues and surfaces, such as antacids, retinol esters, polymers, and plastics. Diammonium dithiodiglycolate can be synthesized by reacting 3-mercaptopropionic acid with diammonium hydroxide in the presence of an active oxygen source such as peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. The reaction produces a functional group called disulfide bond which links two different molecules together. This polymer also contains biphenyl units to provide stability and encapsulation for the functional groups. Diammonium dithiodiglycolate reacts with organic acids such as acetic acid to form polycarboxylic acid derivatives that are soluble in water and have solubility constants of 10-6 M or greater.
