Coronalolide is a rubiaceous plant that has been shown to have a blood pressure lowering effect. It inhibits angiotensin II-induced elevation of blood pressure and also reduces the activity of the enzyme agalactiae, which is responsible for the production of angiotensin II. Coronalolide has been shown to be active against a wide range of organisms, including bacteria and fungi. Coronalolide is also an antibacterial agent and has demonstrated antibacterial activity in vivo in an animal model. This compound also has modulating effects on cancer cells by inhibiting tumorigenesis and proliferation of endothelial cells and may be useful for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
