Vernolide B is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and potent cytotoxicity in animals. Vernolide B, which inhibits the glutamate pyruvate transaminase enzyme, can be used as an anticancer agent. Vernolide B also inhibits the cycle analysis of cancer cells by inhibiting DNA replication and protein synthesis, leading to cell death. It has been shown to induce apoptosis through a number of mechanisms, including inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase activities and collagen production.
