2-Chloro-6-methylphenyl isothiocyanate (CMIT) is a chiral molecule with two enantiomers. It is an amide and cox inhibitor, which means that it inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase 1 (COX-1) and 2 (COX-2). CMIT has been shown to be more potent than aspirin in inhibiting COX-1. This drug also has an analgesic effect that may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. CMIT has been shown to have a short half life in humans, but has a long half life in rats. This may be due to differences in metabolism or elimination between rats and humans. The pharmacokinetic profile of this drug is not known at this time.
