Description:3-Iodobenzene-1,2-diol is an organic compound with the formula CH3C6H4(OH)2. It is a colorless oil that is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It can be prepared by reaction of 2,3-dibromobenzene with sodium iodide in ethanol or acetone. 3-Iodobenzene-1,2-diol is used as a reagent for the synthesis of esters from carboxylic acids and alcohols, and for the preparation of boronic acid esters. 3-Iodobenzene-1,2-diol can also be used to synthesize polymers such as polyesters and polycarbonates. The natural product dihydrolycopodine contains a 3-iodo group. It is also used as a synthon in organic chemistry reactions involving electron deficient species.
