WAY-169916's mechanism of action is not fully understood but may involve inhibition of the activity of 17β-estradiol and/or its receptor. This drug also has an antiinflammatory effect on bowel disease models in mice by inhibiting inflammation through mechanisms that are yet to be elucidated.
