Product Information
- [(2S,3R)-3-Amino-2-Hydroxy-4-Phenylbutanoyl]-L-Leucine Bestatin
Ubenimex is a peptide-based inhibitor of aminopeptidase enzymes that act on the N-terminus of amino acid chains. It is also an inhibitor of Leucine aminopeptidase 3 (LAP3) and a potent irreversible inhibitor of Leukotriene A4 (LTA4) hydrolase. It is used in the treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Ubenimex binds to the active site of aminopeptidases and inhibits their activity, thus preventing degradation of peptides. Ubenimex has been shown to inhibit aminopeptidase A and B, but not C or D. As a result, it prevents cleavage of the N-terminal amino acids from proteins, which may be involved in inflammatory processes. Furthermore Bestatin has been shown to exhibit antibacterial properties against P. gingivalis and F. nucleatum and is available in the salt form: Hydrochloride.
