Product Information
Octadecyl caffeate is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have antioxidative properties in cell cultures. It is made up of 12 carbon atoms, which are octadecyl chains, and 8 methyl groups. Octadecyl caffeate is able to inhibit lipid peroxidation and scavenge free radicals, making it an effective antioxidant. Octadecyl caffeate also inhibits the activity of mitochondrial electron transport chain enzymes, resulting in decreased reactive oxygen species production. The uptake of octadecyl caffeate by mitochondria is achieved through a dipole or a charge transfer mechanism. This makes octadecil caffeate an effective inhibitor of mitochondrial DNA mutations and apoptosis induction. Pinoresinol diglucoside (PDG) is another type of natural antioxidant that can be used as a substitute for octadecyl caffeate in wastewater treatment processes.
