Product Information
Butaprost is a prostaglandin analog that inhibits cyclase and polymerase activities. It has been shown to inhibit tumor formation by inhibiting cell proliferation in the skin. Butaprost has a low potency, which means that it takes relatively high doses to be effective. Prostaglandins are lipid compounds that are synthesized from arachidonic acid through the action of cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2). Prostaglandins have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects as well as inhibit tumor growth and induce collagen synthesis.
Butaprost is used in the treatment of bowel disease and water permeability. It has also been shown to lower levels of PGE2, which may be due to its ability to inhibit COX-2.
