Description:

Ethyl isobutyl phthalate (EIBP) is a compound that is used as a polymerization catalyst. It has a high molecular weight and viscosity, which are required for efficient production of polyolefins. EIBP is also used in the manufacture of other products such as liquid crystal displays, wire and cable insulation, and automotive parts. The catalyst can be manufactured with a low-cost process by using zirconium dichloride, ethylene gas, and an acid catalyst. Silicon helps to remove impurities from the product. Magnesium prevents the catalyst from breaking down in air. A metallocene or hydrocarbon group may be used to increase the efficiency of the method; these compounds are solid catalysts that do not dissolve in organic solvents.
