Its optical rotation is +20° in the DMSO solvent system and -25° in the ethanol solvent system. The racemization reaction is influenced by temperature, pH, and ionic strength. The rate of racemization increases as the temperature rises. Racemization also occurs more rapidly at acidic pH values than at alkaline pH values.
