Product Information
Aflavarin is a secondary metabolite that is produced by the fungus A. flavus. Aflavarin is an inhibitor of protein synthesis and has been shown to be active against other fungal species, such as Fusarium oxysporum, Penicillium patulum, and Aspergillus fumigatus. Aflavarin also inhibits the growth of bacteria and can be used to treat bacterial infections in animals. The biosynthesis of aflavarin is not well understood, although it has been hypothesized that it may be involved in the regulation of cell differentiation in A. flavus. Aflavarin is believed to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and preventing their assembly into functional units. This may be due to its ability to bind with RNA polymerase and inhibit transcription or its ability to bind with ribosomes and inhibit protein synthesis through a post-translational mechanism. Aflavarin has also been shown to reduce fertility in insects, which may be due
