Zabofloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of fluoroquinolones. It is used for the treatment of chronic bronchitis, acute exacerbations, and chronic pulmonary infections. Zabofloxacin inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and preventing transcription and replication. The drug has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against a variety of bacteria, including Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Zabofloxacin is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations that include hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase or conjugation with glucuronic acid.
