PJ34 is a chemical compound that induces apoptosis in cancer cells. It has been shown to induce caspase-independent cell death in myeloma cells and HL-60 leukemia cells, but not in normal cells. PJ34 is a selective inhibitor of PARP-1, an enzyme that regulates the balance between DNA repair and apoptosis. This drug also induces neuronal death by inhibiting basic proteins without inducing necrosis.
