Daidzein-d4 is a metabolite of daidzein, a phytoestrogen found in soybeans. This compound has been shown to be more potent than other isoflavones such as biochanin and apigenin. Daidzein-d4 has been used to study the effect of matrix effect on chromatographic analysis, with the addition of apigenin to the sample preparation. The presence of equol, another metabolite of daidzein, also increases the potency of this compound. Daidzein-d4 has been detected in lepidopteran tissues by LC-MS/MS methods. This compound is found in many plants and its effects are similar to those of other isoflavones such as genistein and diadzein.
