Isodiospyrin is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It binds to fatty acids and inhibits aldol cyclization, which is an important reaction in the synthetic pathway of many plant families. Isodiospyrin is also an inhibitor of DNA duplexes and has demonstrated an inhibitory effect on cellular growth. The chemical interactions between Isodiospyrin and the cellular target are not well known, but it has been shown to have redox potentials that are similar to those of phenolic compounds found in plants.
The mechanism by which Isodiospyrin inhibits cell growth is not yet fully understood, although it may be due to its ability to bind to dna duplexes and interfere with RNA synthesis.
