Product Information
Pisatin is a phytoalexin that is produced by plants in response to microbial infection. It has been shown to have potent protein synthesis-inhibiting activity against the growth of Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Haematococcus pluvialis. Pisatin also inhibits the activity of enzymes that are involved in isoflavonoid biosynthesis, but does not inhibit the activity of enzymes involved in lignin biosynthesis. Pisatin binds to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA by competitive inhibition and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death. Pisatin has been shown to be effective against plant pathogens when used at low concentrations and can be used for controlling bacterial infections on plants.
