Product Information
- Methyl 3-Hydroxychol-5-En-24-Oate
Cholenic acid methyl ester is an inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that belongs to the class of fatty acids. It has been shown to inhibit HIV-1 infection in vitro. Cholenic acid methyl ester inhibits HIV-1 replication by preventing the formation of viral particles and inhibiting the function of enzymes essential for viral replication. This compound binds to hydroxyl groups on nucleic acid, forming hydrogen bonds with the bases in DNA or RNA. Cholenic acid methyl ester also inhibits aminosterol synthesis, which is required for the production of cholesterol and steroid hormones, resulting in a decrease in cellular membrane fluidity and increased permeability. Cholenic acid methyl ester has been shown to inhibit cholesterol production when administered orally to rats, leading to decreased levels of serum cholesterol and triglycerides.
