Saponarin is a complex enzyme that has been used as a natural remedy for the treatment of hepatic steatosis. It has been shown to have hepatoprotective properties and chemical stability under acidic conditions. Saponarin also protects against brain disorders, such as memory loss and dementia, by reducing oxidative stress in the brain. Saponarin is purified from the bark of the Quillaja saponaria tree and can be found in some brands of toothpaste. This compound has been shown to inhibit the activity of trifluoroacetic acid-soluble enzymes, such as procyanidin B4, which are involved in lipid metabolism.
