It has been used as a precursor to other compounds such as benzoyl chloride, glyoxal, and aldehydes. 2-Methylthiazole-4-carboxaldehyde can be synthesized using acetylation or nitration of thiols or with glyoxal or aldehyde. The reactivity of this compound is high and can be carried out in high yield.
