Product Information
5-Iodo-1-methyluracil is a synthetic pyrimidine nucleoside that is used as an antiviral agent. It inhibits the synthesis of viral DNA and RNA by interacting with the enzyme thymidine kinase, which is required for the conversion of thymine to uracil. 5-Iodo-1-methyluracil also interacts with adenosine deaminase, which converts adenosine to inosine. The activated form of 5-Iodo-1-methyluracil can be transformed into cytotoxic compounds by metathesis reactions, such as those involving carbonyl groups or activated esters. This compound is often used in assays to detect hypervalent iodine compounds.
