Description:

Methyltrioxorhenium(VII) is a peroxide that can be used as an oxidation catalyst. It is a reactive metal oxide with three oxides in the same molecule. Methyltrioxorhenium(VII) has been shown to catalyze the epoxidation of alkenes and hydroxylation of alkynes. Methyltrioxorhenium(VII) has also been used as a catalyst for the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide, with a high level of chemical stability. This compound can be used as an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis reactions, such as the preparation of triethylaluminum from its elements. Methyltrioxorhenium(VII) is also a laser-ablation reaction mechanism model system that has been studied extensively.
