Product Information
Angiotensin I is a peptide hormone that is released by the kidney in response to decreased blood pressure. It has a number of effects, including vasoconstriction, release of renin from the juxtaglomerular cells, and increased production of aldosterone by the adrenal cortex. Angiotensin I is also used as a drug to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure. Angiotensin I is produced by proteolytic cleavage of angiotensinogen, which is synthesized in the liver. The protonated form of angiotensin I has been shown to be an excellent substrate for glycopeptides. The reaction products are glycan structures with molecular weights around 10,000 Da and anions with molecular weights around 100 Da. These compounds have been identified using spectrometric techniques such as proton NMR and mass spectrometry.
