Description:(2R)-1-Methoxy-3-(2-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)propan-2-ol is an antitumor agent that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of squamous cancer and renal cell cancer. It inhibits DNA synthesis by acting as a competitive inhibitor of DNA polymerase and topoisomerase II. It has also been shown to enhance radiation therapy, which may be due to its ability to inhibit hypoxia in tumor cells. This drug enhances the uptake of radioactive iodine in cervical cancer cells.
