Yadanziolide A is a β-carboline alkaloid that belongs to the quassinoid family. It has been used in traditional medicines as an anti-cancer agent, but its biological properties and chemical structures have not been identified. Yadanziolide A was found to inhibit the growth of a number of virus strains, including human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and influenza virus. The inhibitory activities of yadanziolide A on cancer cell proliferation were also investigated and found to be significant.
