Product Information
Mianserin is a tricyclic antidepressant that belongs to the class of phenylpiperidine derivatives. The pharmacophore of Mianserin is 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-N-(1-methyl-4-(3-pyridinyl)butyl)-2,4-decadienamide (M1). Mianserin has been shown to bind to the serotonin and norepinephrine receptors in vitro, while also inhibiting the synthesis of these neurotransmitters in vivo. It has also been shown to inhibit the synthesis of vasoactive intestinal peptide in vitro. Clinical trials have found that Mianserin is an effective treatment for depression with statistically significant results.
M1 is an acidic molecule with two geometric isomers: cis and trans. These two structural isomers have been studied using molecular modelling techniques and it was found that the cis form binds more strongly to the serotonin receptor than does the trans form. This
