Product Information
4-Cyano-3-hydroxybenzoic acid (4C3HB) is a molecule that contains four methoxy groups and three hydroxyl groups. The molecule has been modified to include carboxy, hydroxy, and methoxy groups. 4C3HB can be synthesized by reacting 3-hydroxybenzoic acid with nitrous acid. This compound is a ligand of the enzyme cytochrome P450. 4C3HB is toxic to cells in vitro and has been shown to inhibit cellular respiration in mitochondria, which may be due to its ability to bind with cytochrome P450. The oral toxicity of this molecule is unknown, but it does not react with DNA or form adducts with proteins. It also does not cause any mutagenicity or carcinogenicity effects in mice.
