The physicochemical properties of this compound have been optimized for use as an inhibitor. 4-Bromo-2-fluoro-5-methoxybenzoic acid has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Gram negative bacteria by inhibiting their DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which maintain bacterial DNA integrity.
