Product Information
7-Iodopyrido[2,3-b]pyrazine is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits the enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. It has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, as well as Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. This drug is composed of two pyrrolopyrimidine moieties that are connected by an ethylenediamine spacer. The 7-iodo position on one of the pyrrolopyrimidine moieties is used to attach a single iodine atom, which can be readily replaced with other groups to create other analogues with different properties. These analogues have been optimized in order to increase their spectrum of activity or decrease their toxicity.
