Riboflavin is a water-soluble vitamin that is involved in energy metabolism and the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and other important molecules. Riboflavin is also a cofactor for various enzymes, including the oxidative phosphorylation pathway. The effect of riboflavin on disease activity has been studied in many clinical trials. Riboflavin has been shown to decrease atherosclerotic lesion formation in mice by reducing oxidative injury. It also inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA polymerase and blocking transcription. This binding prevents bacterial growth by preventing transcription and replication.
