Pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1h,3h)-dione is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to inhibit the production of necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) in human monocytes. Pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1h,3h)-dione has also been shown to cause DNA cleavage mediated by an aldehyde group. This chemical is being developed as an inhibitor of tumor necrosis factor and other cytokines with similar activities. Pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1h,3h)-dione is under investigation for its potential to prevent breast cancer metastasis.
