Description

Ceanothic acid is a component of the Chinese medicine preparation, Ceanothus herb tea. It has immunomodulatory effects and can be used to treat cavity, cancer, and autoimmune diseases. Ceanothic acid is found in the plant Pueraria lobata and its fruits Fructus lobi. Ceanothic acid has been shown to inhibit herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) replication by preventing viral entry into host cells and inhibiting intracellular viral DNA synthesis. In addition, it has also been shown to have anti-cancer effects as well as inhibitory effects on oral pathogens such as Porphyromonas gingivalis.
