It is a substrate for photodimerization and has been shown to undergo dimerization with an enantioface selectivity of up to 99%. 7-Fluoro-2H-chromen-2-one has also been used in X-ray diffraction studies to determine its crystal structure. 7-Fluoro-2H-chromen-2-one can be synthesized by fluorination of 7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18 hexahydrobenzo[1]pyrene.
