This drug is currently being studied in clinical trials for long term use in cancer patients, but it may also have potential use in reducing the risk of dementia or Alzheimer's disease. 2-Hexyl-4-pentynoic acid works by inhibiting histone methylation, which prevents cells from dividing and reduces the formation of new neurons. Resazurin reduction assays show that this compound also inhibits cellular proliferation.
