Huzhangoside D is a saponin from the roots of Huzhang. It has been shown that Huzhangoside D can induce apoptosis and autophagy, which are two major processes in cell death. The necrosis factor (NF) levels in mice were increased after exposure to Huzhangoside D. This compound also showed strong immunostimulatory activities with high profiles and good staining properties. The spectra obtained by nmr analysis have revealed that the molecule contains a di-hydroxy-pentacyclic triterpenoid structure.
